The second day is down and so are my legs. Today's ride was described as "lightly challenging" which makes me think Lance Armstrong writes the route bios. I was blown away by the scenery, as we spent the majority of the day alternating between winding rubber tree roads and tiny riverside villages.
We stopped at a temple of monks for morning tea and again at one of a thousand roadside cooking stands for lunch. Fun fact: monks are not allowed to cook for themselves. Anything they "prepare" must be given away, so the fish in the river and wandering dogs eat well.
Before lunch, we spent an hour climbing through a cave temple. Our guide Tick is the true king of "under promise, over deliver."
He said, "today we will see a cave." Okay, well it was a temple trove of Buddha statues, steep winding steps and holes of light pouring through. Incredible. #caveselfie
God bless Tick's apparent love of ice cream. We had two short breaks for that express purpose. Also, here is a very cool and giant demon statue. According to Tick, many locals still make offering here because "Thai like to make deals, no matter demon or angel."
We're staying at an Eco Resort (re: jungle Bungalows and lizard in your room) along the Ratchaprapa Dam/canal before day 3 tomorrow.
Happy birthday, Jen!
Thanks Anna! Your trip looks incredible so far. I would love to stay at that peaceful hotel for about a week. May your legs stay strong!
