10 Vietnam Food Highlights

Okay here are some interesting food shots from Vietnam! Some I ate, others nope.
1. PASSION FRUIT: my favorite. Cut in half and eat the crunchy guys. Xoxo
2. Baby octopus at a small locals market. Didn't try these.
3. Giant rice bags. Bottom tan is unhulled, brown rice is bottom left, and white rice is white, duh. The white rice is just brown that's been further polished and hulled.
4. Steamed clams with lemongrass. They were caught in the water and we ate them right there. Like.

5. Here is what a jackfruit looks like on the tree. I think jackfruit is the emoji between the banana and peach that I never recognized. In the next pic you'll see it peeled and ready to eat.
6. Fruit platter from fruits we bought at the market.

  • The jackfruit is the peachy colored segments.
  • Dragonfruit in the far left.
  • Milk apples are top right.
  • Rambutans are scattered on the right side.
  • The uncut passion fruits are the ones that look like apples.
  • You'll see mandarins peeled on the very top.

7. Below is unpeeled dragonfruit and rambutan. Both have thick inedible peels. The rambutans are small and very juicy--similar to lychee. The dragonfruit (white with tiny black seeds above) tastes like a kiwi-melon mix, pretty subtle.
8. Snake liquor. It has 4 full dead cobras in it and supposedly gives you a great libido for 2 days. Very specific. Didn't try it, smelled like acetone.
9. Meat market. Super bad karma in this area, I found it troubling to be here so passed quickly and didn't purchase any large slabs of exposed pork.
10. Vietnamese coffee. DRINK IT ALL DAY OKAY. It's tastes delicious but makes you feel like you had 5 shots of espresso (maybe it is 5 shots, I don't know). Nan got a lychee/mint/lime icee.
